The Purchase
Region is one of the few areas in the county serviced by five Class
I railroads, a strong regional railroad, and two short lien
railroads, with service available to all North American markets and
ports.
Railroads serve the state of
Kentucky
with 2,760 miles of track,
including 2,299 miles of Class I track. Railroads operating in the
state include CSX,
Norfolk
Southern, Canadian National Railway
Company, and the
Paducah
and Louisville Railway.
Intermodal service is becoming increasingly important to many
distributors and is now available at several facilities in
Kentucky. Passenger service is provided by
AMTRAK at several locations including
